MONROE -- Monroe County authorities caught a home intruder at a local hospital after he was stabbed by the homeowner early Friday.

According to Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies, the homeowner said he heard someone break into his home on Union Street and was confronted by an intruder in his unattached garage around 2:30 a.m.

The men began to fight and the intruder was stabbed. The suspect then fled the scene.

Sheriff's deputies later found the suspect at Mercy Hospital, where he received medical treatment for a non-life threatening stab wound. His identity has not yet been released, but the sheriff's office will be seeking charges of breaking and entering.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the detective's bureau at (734) 240-7530.
