FOSTORIA -- A drug bust turned into an assault on several police officers Wednesday in Fostoria.

The Fostoria Police Department, in conjunction with the Seneca County Drug Task Force, executed a drug search warrant at the home of Eric E. Coleman, 22, and Jessica I. Durant, 18, 355 1/2 W. Fremont St.

When officers approached the residence, Coleman fled the home and entered his vehicle. He then rammed his vehicle "head on" into a Fostoria Police cruiser as approaching officers attempted to apprehend him. In his attempt to elude police, Coleman extensively damaged both vehicles.

Coleman was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Vehicular Assault on Police Officers, a second-degree felony.

Police say charges of Possession of Heroin, Possession of Criminal Tools, Possession of Stolen Firearms, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana and pending further investigation. In the raid of the home, police seized heroin, US currency, criminal tools, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and three handguns.

"Heroin addiction is a devastating drug, not only to the people who abuse Heroin but to the community it plagues," said Captain Pat Brooks of the City of Fostoria. "The execution of this search warrants is just a small example of what area Law Enforcement plans on doing to combat the Heroin issue in our community."

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to local law enforcement or the Seneca County Drug Task Force METRICH Enforcement Unit Crime Hotline at 1-877-446-DRUG or 419-443-0463.
