In Lake Township, Tuesday night, hundreds gathered to mark the 2nd anniversary of a tornado outbreak that killed seven Northwest Ohio residents on June 5th, 2010.

During the memorial service, at Millbury Veterans Memorial Plaza, a new gazebo and headstone were unveiled to the public which honors the victims.

Just before the unveiling, one of the victim’s family members performed a song he wrote about the tragedy.

I didn’t know how to do anything rather than kind of write a song through therapy and that was kind of my way to tell everyone thank you,” Steve Welling said.

Welling is the grandson of Irwin Welling, one of the victims whose name is now engraved in the new marker.

The names of Kathleen Hammitt, Ted Kranz, Hayden Walters, Mary Walters, Ryan Walters, and Bailey Bowman also appear on the headstone.

Bowman’s family, along with her young son, was at Tuesday’s unveiling and hopes that others will learn from their tragedy.

“I don’t think you ever put the pieces back to the way they were. I think it’s just easier to get up every morning. Time is the best healer,” Bowman’s father Mike Grenata said.

In addition to the headstone and gazebo, each of the victim’s families was given a white dove that was released into the air at the end of the ceremony.
