CLEVELAND (AP) - Storms that quickly dumped several inches of water on parts of northern Ohio uprooted trees and has schools and streets flooded.
The West Geauga school district southeast of Cleveland gave all students the day off on Tuesday because of flood damage, particularly at its high school and middle school. Chesterland, where the schools are located, got 3 inches of rain during one hour on Monday. The National Weather Service reports an elderly couple had to be rescued from high water at their home.
Between Cleveland and Toledo, about 3½ inches of rain fell during one hour in Sandusky, leaving some roads under 2 feet of water.
Lighting struck Cleveland's 110-year-old Lane Metropolitan Church, knocking bricks to the pavement.
