High Wind Advisory in effect

After pleasant highs getting into the lower 50's on President's Day winter has returned with a venegence with screaming winds and plunging temps.  The cold front that moved through early this morning dropped the mercury twenty notches in a hurry as winter rushed back in.  A High Wind Advisory is in effect through 7pm this evening as we'll see sustained winds out of the west at 20 to 30 MPH and some gusts to 45 MPH.  Combine the winds with temps falling into the lower 20's this afternoon and we get single digit windchills.  So layer up once again as this winter, characterized by huge and rapid swings in temperature, takes another plunge into the ice box.  To add insult to injury we will be seeing periods of scattered snow showers & flurries blowing sideways throughout the day.

We get dangerously cold overnight with winds staying up and temps falling into the mid teens.  We'll likely see more scattered snow showers early during the overnight but the real story will be the windchills - dropping into the -5 to -15 range at times and in places by daybreak!  This is frostbite territory and you want to be sure to cover all exposed skin before heading out to work or driving the kids to the bus stop - and yes, that is something that you should be doing Wednesday morning.  It doesn't get much better during the day and we'll continue to see winds gusting to 35 & 40 MPH with highs in the mid and upper 20's.

Some sunshine is in store Thursday but we remain cold.  Under partly cloudy skies highs top out in the upper 20's.  If there is any good news here it is that the winds will finally begin to relax.

Friday offers another potential troublemaker headed our way.  This storm system will move in from the southwest and will likely deliver a wintery mix that could make things slippery on roadways throughout the region as we kick off the weekend - which looks relatively quiet and milder with highs finally climbing into the 40's both Saturday and Sunday.
