The BGSU Falcons could not afford another MAC loss if they wanted to keep their league championship hopes alive. They delivered today.
After three straight losses, including two MAC opponents in Toledo and Western Michigan, BG had an impressive defensive performance to squeak out a win against MAC East-Leading Temple. The Falcons needed a fourth quarter touchdown, as well as a big defensive stop with just under a minute to play. Thanks to a Paul Swan sack of Temple's quarterback Chester Stewart, BG was able to run the clock out for the victory.
"We knew if we didn't win this one, our goal of a MAC championship would've been a hard one to accomplish," BGSU Head Coach Dave Clawson noted.
After a field goal-filled game, the fourth quarter delivered some excitement for the just over 12,000 in attendance. A Bernard Pierce touchdown run gave Temple a 10-6 lead with eleven minutes left to play. Bowling Green answered in dramatic fashion. On fourth and nine with seven minutes remaining, Matt Schilz connects with Southview High School Grad, Shaun Joplin for a twenty-four yard touchdown to give the Falcons the lead for good. Bowling Green wins 13-10, and now controls its MAC East destiny.
