DETROIT (AP) - Magglio Ordonez's single in the fourth inning for the Detroit Tigers against the Minnesota Twins was the 2,000th hit of his career.

Ordonez became the sixth Venezuelan on Thursday to reach the milestone, joining Omar Vizquel, Luis Aparicio, Andres Galarraga, Dave Concepcion and Bobby Abreu. He's also the 260th player with 2,000 hits in the majors.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said before the game it was a tremendous accomplishment. But it made Leyland wonder out loud how anyone could hit more than 4,000, as Pete Rose and Ty Cobb did.

Ordonez entered Thursday's game with a .301 average, a plateau he has reached the previous three years in Detroit and in nine of the last 11 seasons with the Tigers and Chicago White Sox.
