Whitmer slips past Springfield in section final

TOLEDO, OH -- Whitmer's boys basketball team defeated Springfield 48-46 in the Division I sectional final at Central Catholic Friday.

Ricardo Smith notched 16 points for the Panthers while Nigel Hayes added nine points and 10 boards. Marquan Hodges scored 13 points for the Blue Devils.

Whitmer will face league rival Central Catholic in the district semifinal Thursday at Savage Arena.
