PERRYSBURG -- It's been a little over five months since an arson heavily damaged the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo. But, now the center is slowly making its way back to opening.

The Islamic center isn't officially open, but this Friday was the first day Friday prayers were held inside the center.

Since the fire inside the center, the nearly 400 families that worship here have had to pray in hotel conference rooms.

But, that started to become difficult according to Cherrefe Kadri the president of the Islamic center. She said the space wasn't enough for the members and holding prayers inside the building today was the only option, "to see each other and to be back in the building even if it was that limited time, people missed it," explained Kadri.

The damage to the center cost around $1.5 million dollars. Much of the damage has been restored. SMB restoration is the company responsible for the repairs.

The center will officially open on March 31st.

Now the process of moving items back into the center following the arson begins.

The center is looking for volunteers to help with that on Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
