Toledo native and Rogers High School alum, Erik Kynard, has jumped his way into the Olympic records books by claiming a silver medal in the men's high jump competition.

LONDON -- He jokingly said it was all the socks, but, however he did it, he's smiling now. Toledo native and Rogers High School alum, Erik Kynard, has jumped his way into the Olympic records books by claiming a silver medal in the men's high jump competition.
Kynard successfully jumped 2.33 meters, over 7 feet, Wednesday inside Olympic Stadium. The feat was enough to make him the second best high jumper in the world, narrowly missing Ivan Ukhov's gold medal jump. Canada's Derek Drouin and Mutaz Barshim of Qatar tied for the bronze.
After the results came in, Kynard step towards the live feed camera and proclaimed, "It's the socks..mom I love you!" His socks were American flags. Back home in Toledo, Kynard's mother, friends, and family gathered to cheer on the hometown Olympian.
