SYLVANIA -- In an effort to draw in the younger crowd, the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic has upped their social media presence to increase awareness of the tournament's misison.

Since 1984, the Jamie Farr tournament has donated millions of dollars to local children's charities. In an effort to extend that mission to younger LPGA fans and philanthropists, tournament organizers enlisted the help of Hanson, Inc. to provide full social media support.

"There's been a lot of energy around social media in the LPGA, and we're excited to continue that at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic," tournament director Judd Silverman said in a statement. "From the beginning, our focus has been on raising support for local children’scharities, and this year's social media efforts are helping us increase that community engagement even more."

Fans can receive updates on event information or ask a question on the tournament’s new Facebook page and Twitter account. Hanson's social media team will update these accounts during the tournament, providing live online coverage.

Hanson has also placed geolocation tags at each hole of the course at Highland Meadows Golf Club to allow FourSquare users to "check in" on their mobile phones. FourSquare is a social media platform that invites users to virtually check in to businesses and events to see tips, access special offers and compete to become "mayor" of a location by checking in most often. FourSquare users who check in to a hole during the tournament will have the chance to become mayor of that hole.

Another way for social media enthusiasts to get involved will be a "tweet wall" at the Hollywood Casino Gala Dinner & Show on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the SeaGate Centre. Twitter users are invited to use the official hashtag #JamieFarr2012 to live tweet the event. These tweets will be displayed in real time on a monitor at the event.

Twitter engagement will continue at the Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday, Aug. 8. A Hanson employee will serve as the tournament's first "tweeting standard-bearer," live-tweeting from his perspective on the green.

"Hanson was founded in Toledo and has a demonstrated commitment to our local community," said Steve Hanson, president and CEO of Hanson, Inc. "So we're genuinely thrilled to put our digital expertise to work in support of the tournament's mission."
