ADRIAN -- Anytime a high school sends multiple athletes to the state track and field meet it's noteworthy. When a high school sends two in the same event, well, that's a story.

Adrian high school is doing just that as seniors Cory Miller and Colton Arnett will compete in the Michigan state track and field meet in Grand Rapids on Saturday. In fact, this is nothing new as they both qualified last year. Competing against eachother has created a friendly rivalry.

"It's actually pretty nice because we're both really pushing eachother...one day if I slack off a little bit, he can be catching me," Miller said.

"I really feel that if I was at any other school I wouldn't be as good a vaulter because I wouldn't have the competition to push me," Arnett said.

It also helps that the two have been best friends for a long time.

"We tend to vault better when we have fun, so we kind of give it a little atmosphere," Arnett said.

"We're always cheering eachother on, always telling eachother 'get on bigger poles, run faster, work a little bit harder'. We're very competitive towards eachother and that helps a lot," Miller said.

Both vaulters have surpassed the previous school record. Miller currently holds it with a vault of 16 feet. Arnett's best is 14'10". The two have teamed up to win, and break records, at numerous relay events over the past two years.

Miller will vault for Kent State next year, while Arnett has yet to commit, but is leaning towards Eastern Michigan, which means they could end up seeing each other in the MAC track and field meet in the future.
