The drought continues.

It's been 22 years since Macomber and Scott won back-to-back state titles in boys high school basketball. Since then, no Toledo school has hoisted the championship trophy.

Whitmer was the latest to join the list of those who have fallen in the final game, as they lost to Pickerington Central on Saturday night, 45-40.

The Panthers held a 37-36 lead with two and a half minutes left following a three point play by junior Nigel Hayes. Central took the lead back on free throws and never relinquished it.

Hayes had 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior Leroy Alexander led Whitmer in scoring with 19. Both players were named to the Division I all-tournament team.
