It was a battle of former City League rivals as St. John's visited Rogers on Saturday night.

With the game on the line and 4.5 seconds left, Titans junior Marc Loving went to the line to complete a three point play and give St. John's a one point lead, but his free throw rimmed out and the game went into overtime.

In OT, Rogers junior Clemmye Owens made a game tying 3 pointer and senior DJ Tucker hit a go-ahead runner as the Rams defended home court, 70-67.

"When overtime came our coaches told us just keep our composure and stay focused and we'll win this game," said Owens, who finished with 15 points.

"It's still a big game and it's built our kids' confidence," said Rams head coach Earl Morris.

The Titans had to battle back from a nine point 4th quarter deficit and in the end that's what did them in, according to head coach Ed Heintschel.

"We kind of dug ourselves a hole and wehn you do that it takes a lot of energy to get back out of it and when you do that sometimes you lose a little bit."

Loving led all scorers with 28 points.

On the girls side, Perrysburg defeated Anthony Wayne 48-27 in an early afternoon matchup. Senior Kelsea Newman scored 13 points and in the process reached 1,000 for her career.

"It's great, it's a real accomplishment. I've been working on it since freshman year, it feels like it pays off finally," Newman said.
