Monday's word of the day: "Charity"

Tennessee Titans wide receiver and Scott high school and Tiffin University alum Nate Washington was back in the Glass City for his third annual Toy and Coat Giveaway. The event, which took place at the Huntington Center, benefits less fortunate children, and their families, from the Toledo area.

"Growing up in a bad neighborhood...seeing a lot of things that the unfortunate single mothers and the families go through, when it comes around Christmas time it's unfortunate. So we just try to do everything we can to give them a little something," said Washington, who's non profit oranization, the 85th foundation put on the event.

"This is the city I grew up in, this is the city that made me...I'm just happy...I've been very blessed throughout seven years in the NFL and I just want to be able to bless others," Washington said.

Earlier in the day, the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic held their Charity Check luncheon at Owens Corning. Despite their not being a tournament this year, six local charities still received money. Roughly $200,000 dollars were donated by Toledo Classic Inc., the parent company of the Farr Classic. In addition to that amount, Kroger donated $75,000 to an additional two charities including the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic Scholarship fund. All totalled the organization has donated $7.4 million since 1984.

Finally, members of the Toledo and Bowling Green football teams united at the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. The two teams participated in the "Cash for Sacks" program this season. For every sack that either team recorded, Kroger donated a sack of groceries of $25 value to the Food Bank. Combined the two teams donated $1,075 worth of groceries.
