With 1.2 seconds left in the game Loyola went to the guy who made the big bucket all game long, Ben Averkamp, and he drilled a 15 footer to beat the buzzer to give the UT men's basketball team their second straight loss 57-55.

Averkamp scored 31 points in leading the Ramblers back from a 14 point second half deficit.

"It was very deflating, Matt [Smith] played pretty good defense on him but he was a good player, he got the shot off and knocked it down," said Julius Brown, who finished with 13 points and seven assists in the losing effort.

Just before the final play Matt Smith tried a full court pass but the ball hit the bottom of the scoreboard at center court allowing Loyola to take the ball out under their own basket.

Toledo lead by eight at halftime and was in control for much of the second half. Rian Pearson led the way for the Rockets with 20 points and seven rebounds, Brown was the only other player for UT in double figures.

"This team, I've said many times, they're fun to coach, great to be around, but the last two games we have not performed or played like we had prior to that," said Toledo head coach Tod Kowalczyk.

The early contest was far less dramatic.

The women's team lead by 23 at halftime and won by 39 over Cleveland State 81-42. In a total team effort every Rocket player that dressed, scored a point.

Andola Dortch lead with 13, Riley McCormick had 12 and Kyle Baumgartner and Start alum Yolanda Richardson had 11 to round out the Rockets in double figures.

Central Catholic alum Brianna Jones (six points, four rebounds) and Pandora-Gilboa'sStephanie Recker (seven points, six rebounds) had their best games as Rockets.

"There are kids off our bench like Riley McCormick, like Brianna Jones, like Stephanie Recker that we need desperately going forward. But because of the caliber of opponents we played early on it was difficult to go as deep as we wanted. I'm so glad we had a game like we did today for that opportunity," said Toledo head coach Tricia Cullop.
