TOLEDO -- According to the Chicago Tribune, University of Toledo head football coach Tim Beckman will be named the next head coach at Illinois.
UT cancelled a press conference on Thursday because Beckman was leaving to attend a funeral for a friend in Columbus. WNWO approached Beckman immediately following practice on Thursday, when asked about the rumors of his departure he declined to comment.
Beckman is expected to be introduced at Illinois on Friday. The Illini fired Ron Zook after the team finished the season with six straight losses.
Beckman has a 21-16 record in his three seasons with the Rockets, including an appearance in last year's Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl.
Illinois is expected to pay Beckman a salary of close to $2 million.
