Stan Joplin wasfired as head basketball coach at the University of Toledo back in March of 2008.

He hasn't coached a game at any level unitl Tuesday night.

In Joplin's first game back on the bench at any level, his Springfield high school Blue Devils beat Eastwood, 46-45.

Trailing the entire game, Springfield's Marquan Hodges scored to tie at 45-45 with :24 seconds left.

He was fouled on the play and made the free throw, giving the Devils a one point lead.

Eastwood's Jacob Faykosh missed on a 3-point attempt just before the buzzer and Joplin and the Devils win their 2011-12 opener.

"It probably gives me a little bit of credibility," Joplin said.  "Everything that we kind of preach, kind of came to fruition tonight."

Elsewhere, former St. Francis coach Nick Lowe made his head coaching debut with Bedford, losing to Central Cahtholic, 51-40.

"It's a long process for us," Lowe said.  "It's not going to be fixed in a day and we'll battle all year."

Also, in a City League vs NLL match-up, Start beat Maumee, 65-56.

Finally, in a touching ceremony at Cardinal Stritch, the basketball team honored the memory of long-time manager Christy Bosch.

Bosch, who suffered from Downs Syndrome, passed away in September at the age of 34.

Her final two wishes were to be put in the Stritch hall of fame and for the team to have a party for her.  They did both.

Unfortunately for Stritch, they lost their game against Tiffin Calvert, 70-63.
