Tiffin Columbian made the Division III regional finals last year.

This year, the Tornadoes moved up to Division II but are right back in the regional finals Friday night, playing Avon in Fremont.

The Eagles are the number-one seed in the region and knocked off Central Catholic last week.

Down 14-0 in the 2nd quarter, junior running back Jack Jacoby put the Tornadoes on the board but Columbian trailed 21-7 at half.

Columbian came out swinging in the second half.

Jacoby would score again to the cut the Eagle lead to seven.

Later in the half,  after Tornado receiver Jonah Boyer  took a Ben Davis pass to the five yard line, Jacoby would score again to tie things up at 21 apiece.

Avon would answer with a touchdown to retake the lead and then on a fourth and eight, under four minutes to play, Davis would throw an interception leading to another Eagle touchdown.

Tiffin Columbian bows out, losing 35-21.

"We made an excellent effort to come back into it," said Davis. "We tied it up (but) we just didn't have that last little 'oomph' to win it."

(12-1) Avon advances to next week's state semi-finals where they will play (12-1) Aurora.
