League MVP MacLeod scores game's lone goal

SCOTT PARK -- The UT women's soccer team won their league record fourth MAC tournament title on Sunday.

A hard fought, gritty battle between the #1 seed Rockets and the #3 seed Western Michigan Broncos was decided by a goal by the league MVP in the game's 68th minute.  Off an assist from Danielle Case and Rio James, which came off a corner kick by Natalia Gaitan, sophomore Rachel MacLeod sent the ball by goalie Michelle Watson for the lone goal of the game and UT won their first tournament championship since 2008, advancing to the NCAA tournament in the process.

"It feels amazing...It's such a great feeling to win and I'm so excited," MacLeod said.

"It's just unbelievable to be here, to win, to have this group of girls that are amazing...I'm just happy," said junior defender Gaitan, who's had a busy year after playing for her native Colombia in the World Cup.

"All credit to our players for finding a way and sticking with the game plan and ultimately [being] successful in conference," said head coach Brad Evans who's in his 11th year at the helm of the Rockets and led them to tournament titles in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

MacLeod, Gaitan and senior mid-fielders Ana Reynolds and Kristen Lynn were also named to the All-Tournament team.
