Bowling Green State University will be among the newest members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association beginning in the 2013-2014 season.

BGSU was a founding member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Assocation back in 1971 and is the only member to have never left the conference.

"I'm excited," said BG coach Chris Bergeron.  "It's a new chapter for us in a couple of years when we get started but it's because we're going to such a strong hockey conference is why we're all excited."

The Falcons will join fellow CCHA members; Alaska Fairbanks, Ferris State University, Lake Superior State University and Western Michigan in the WCHA.

According to BGSU athletic director Greg Christopher, there were other options but choosing the WCHA was the best  choice.

"Where are we going to be best positioned to compete for championships?  That's been the driving decision behind all of this."
