OXFORD -- Head Coach Dave Clawson and the Falcons were looking to start 1-0 in MAC play and improve their overall record to 3-1, after a tough loss to Wyoming last week.

The game was scoreless towards the end of the first quarter, when running back Jordan Hopgood took a direct snap for a two yard touchdown to put the Falcons up 6-0. A missed extra point kept the lead at six.  After a couple of touchdowns from Miami, BG found themselves down 13-14 with just two minutes left in the first half.  Quarterback Matt Schilz lined up at the one yard line, used play action, then rolled to his right and found Kendall Montgomery wide open in the end zone to put the Falcons up 20-14.

Miami would make a 45 yard field goal at the end of the first half to put the score at 20-17.  After another Miami field goal, BG had the ball at the seven yard line with Schilz once again rolling to his right.  This time he found Kamar Jorden for the score, which put BG up 27-17.

BG made a 35-yard field goal in the fourth after a Miami touchdown to put the lead at 30-23.  Anthon Samuel decided to take the game into his own hands.  Samuel took the handoff at his own four yard line and never looked back.  Ninety-six yards later, Samuel ran it into the end zone to put the Falcons up two touchdowns.

BG's defense did the rest and the Falcons walked away with the victory, 37-23.
