TOLEDO -- Republic Services has officially taken over garbage and recycling collection in the glass city.

General Manager David Vossmer says residents should only see a few changes in collection services.

The private contractor is getting rid of the ‘Leap’ system. Now citizens will have their garbage picked up the same day throughout the year, except on holidays were collections will take place the following day through Saturday.

Recycling will now be an option without any extra fees. Vossmer hopes that citizens continue to recycle to reduce the amount of waste in local landfills. An incentive program is in place to reward those who do recycle.  For every pound of recycled materials, points will be earned to put towards local merchants around the Toledo Area.
