Derek Boogaard, one of the most feared tough men in the NHL was found dead by his family. In his six years in the league, Boogaard played a total of 277 games for the Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers. He was sitting out with a concussion.
Derek was an outstanding member of the NHLPA and known as a humble, kind man off of the ice, despite having dropped the gloves 61 times in the NHL. Boogaards' family will be donating Derek’s' brain to the Boston University, where researches do studies on the brain diseases of athletes. The coroner does not suspect foul play.
