A Toledo teen was hospitalized after crashing a vehicle into a utility pole on Oakwood Avenue during a police chase early Tuesday.
According to Toledo police, a gang unit attempted to stop the reported stolen vehicle at Joffre and Foster before 2:30 a.m. The driver, 18-year-old Khiry Woodmore, failed to pull over, initiating a chase.
Police report that the vehicle turned eastbound on Oakwood and crossed over railroad tracks at a high rate of speed, causing Woodmore to lose control and hit a utility pole near Smead Avenue.
The suspect then attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by police after a brief pursuit. Woodmore was taken to a Toledo hospital for his injuries. His condition is unknown, but police say warrants have been issued for his arrest upon his release.
Due to downed wires, Oakwood was closed at the time of the crash. Toledo Edison crews are at the scene repairing the lines.
