OREGON -- In light of last week's shooting spree at a Connecticut elementary school, Oregon City Schools officials are beefing up school security on Monday morning.

According to the Oregon Police Department, the school district requested more police officers to monitor activity around their schools. Parents are being asked to not be alarmed.

Oregon police "want to provide a sense of security for our children," according to the department's Facebook page.
