SENECA COUNTY -- Officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OHP) in Fremont are investigating a 2-vehicle crash that killed a 16-year-old on Friday.
Authorities say it happened just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 53 and County Road 592 in Pleasant Township.
Investigators believe that's when 1995 VW Jetta, driven by Abigail Johnson of Marengo, drove into a tractor trailer.
According to an OHP press release, the driver of the truck had been at a stop sign and started to pass through the intersection when Johnson's vehicle hit the tractor trailer.
The impact tore the roof off her car and caused severe head trauma.
Authorities say Johnson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the truck, 68-year-old Glen R. McElroy of Barberton, was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation but authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
