Some people will be paying more for their Thanksgiving turkeys this year, but experts say the rise in price of poultry isn't affecting sales.
Jim Chakeres, executive vice president of the Ohio Poultry Association, said the price increase in feed grains, specifically corn, is a major factor for the rise.
"The cost to the consumers is negligible," Chakeres told the Dayton Daily News. "Turkey remains an affordable choice."
According to industry experts the price per pound of turkey has increased to $3.29 from last year's rate of $2.99.
The American Farm Bureau Federation says the retail cost of menu items for a classic Thanksgiving dinner increased less than 1 percent this year.
