Monroe County teen killed in pedestrian accident

MONROE, MICH. -- The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that killed an 18-year-old girl.

Deputies say the crash occurred on S. Custer Road east of Raisinville Road in Monroe Township.

Preliminary investigation reveals 57-year-old John Chiotti of Monroe was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on S. Custer around 7:45 p.m. when he struck two pedestrians standing in the roadway. Officials say it is unknown why the two pedestrians were standing in the roadway.
The victims are 18-year-old Elizabeth Winter who died at the scene and 29-year-old Nicole Holt who was transported to Mercy Hospital in Monroe and later St. V's. Holt is listed in critical condition.
Mr. Chiotti was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7768.
