TOLEDO -- Hundreds of young women at Toledo Public Schools enjoyed a day filled with educational activities on Saturday at the first meeting of the Young Women of Excellence.

The TPS group is in its first full-year, and is designed to empower young women, while teaching life skills, career counseling, and financial literacy. The group already has over 250 members.

At Saturday's first monthly meeting at the Devilbiss building, girls broke up into team and participated in a variety of team-building activities. Students moved throughout three rooms of activities that included a river-crossing, scavenger hunt, and name game. Girl Scout Leaders brought along cookies for the winning teams, and helped facilitate the learning.

After the teams completed the rotation, all 160 women in attendance reconvened in the library to discuss what they learned. They young women were then treated to a pizza party to conclude the morning.
