ERIE TWP. -- Two men were injured in a car collision with a train at the Tettau Road railroad crossing in Erie Township on Thursday night.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol news release, 35-year-old Jeremiah Pitts was traveling southbound on Tettau when he failed to stop at the railroad crossing and struck a train car on the right side.
The vehicle was then pushed into the railroad crossing sign, where it came to rest.
Pitts was transported to a Port Clinton hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, 32-year-old Kenneth Godfrey, was transported to a Toledo hospital by Life Flight and is listed in stable condition.
The train sustained minor damage and the rain crew was uninjured. Troopers report the railroad crossing ligths and gates were operating correctly at the time of the crash.
The patrol reports alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash.
