EAST TOLEDO -- Toledo Police are investigating a serious 2-car crash in East Toledo, on Wednesday night, that injured 5 people including a 7-month-old child.

Authorities responded to the scene, near the intersection of Nevada and Woodville Road just after 8 p.m.

Officials say that 51-year-old Simon Mickles, who was driving a dark red Chevy Corsica, ran a read light at Nevada and almost hit a silver Mercury Sable head-on.

In the silver sedan, 45-year-old John Parr was driving with 7-month-old Michael Utter as a passenger.

Both Utter and Parr were transported to Mercy St. Vincent's with moderate injuries.

Mickles and one of his passengers, 38-year-old Robert Gaston, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and both had to be freed from the vehicle after becoming trapped.

Investigators say Gaston and Mickles both suffered serious injuries.

Another passenger, in Mickles' vehicle, 40-year-old Mikarsha Grey was also rescued from the Corsica and suffered moderate injuries.

"I do think weather was a factor, cause I am sure that if one of the cars, which ever car may have blown the intersection, had seen the other car they would have had the ability to stop before the accident," Captain of Station 5 Bryce Blair said.

Officials at the scene said they did not think alcohol was a factor in the crash but said toxicology reports would confirm their initial findings.
