PANDORA -- The Valentine's Day rescue of an elderly man who jumped into icy waters to save his dog turned to tragedy on Monday.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office confirmed Stan Newton, 77, died at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was in critical condition for several days after emergency dive crews pulled him from the waters.
Newton was submerged more than 30 minutes after he was unable to get out of the pond. He was able to push his dog to shore.
