TOLEDO, OH -- While bullets have been flying on an almost nightly basis in the Glass City, Toledo Police have made an arrest in one of the few shootings that have been fatal.
Police have issued a warrant Gerald Banks, 18, of Toledo and charged him with aggravated murder for the shooting death of Marquan McCuin.
McCuin was found dead in an alley in the 1100 block of Gordon St. in the early morning hours of July 3. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses observed a male running from the scene at the time of the murder.
McCuin was the ninth homicide victim in Toledo this year.
Toledo has witnessed 29 shootings in the last 31 days. Toledo police have offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who can help them take an illegal gun off the streets. They have also organized a task force in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney and the Ohio State Highway Patrol to serve warrants and get wanted felons off the street.
Community activist Gerald Rose and his organization, New Order, held a press conference Tuesday morning calling for an end to the violence. Rose spent much of this weekend walking in violence plagued neighborhoods and talking to people about what they can do to help stop the violence.
