MONCLOVA TOWNSHIP -- Firefighters from five local departments are battling a fire that has engulfed the Brandywine Condominiums in Monclova.

The complex is located at the intersection of Brynwyck West and Salisbury Road and according to area residents, is home to many senior citizens.

The blaze started around 7:12 pm in one of the apartments located in the middle of the complex. Fire engines arrived shortly after but the flames had already spread across the condominium.

Cathy Paulsen traveled from St. Augustine, Florida to be with her family for Thanksgiving, and fears her family may have lost two apartments in the blaze. Her mother, sister and niece live in one apartment, while her brother and his wife live next door.

"We had just finished eating dinner and Chris said turn the tv down, she hears a bunch of banging, and apparently somebody was banging on the windows telling us to get out," described Paulsen. She continued, "Everybody got out, and that's really what we all care about. Other stuff can be replaced."

Fire officials say no one was injured and all tenants have been moved across the street to the Brandywine Country Club.

Firefighters do not know the cause of the fire, but one official says the 36-year-old building was constructed without fire walls, allowing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the complex.
