Two people are dead and a third injured after a wrong-way crash on southbound I-75 early Monday.

According to police, a red Dodge Charger driven by 37-year-old Ronnell Richards was travelling north in the southbound lanes when it hit a truck head-on near Bancroft.

Richards and the front passenger, 37-year-old Khary Phenix, had to be mechanically extricated from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital.

The truck driver, 27-year-old Kevina Thomas, was also transported to St. Vincent's Hospital and does not appear to have any life threatening injuries at this time.

Just prior to the crash, a semi driver nearly hit the Charger and was in the process of calling 911 when he saw the vehicles collide in his rearview mirror.

Police are still trying to determine where Richards entered the highway and how long he had been driving the wrong way.

This is the third wrong-way crash in the Toledo area in the past week and a half. On March 2, four women were killed when a wrong-way driver slammed into a car full of Bowling Green State University students about to start their spring break trip.
