The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash at the intersection of State Route 109 and US Route 20 in Royalton Township.

Investigators say that around 5:15 p.m., Monday night, 22-year-old Andrew Emery failed to stop at a stop sign and hit an empty tanker truck.

Emery, from Adrian, died at the scene despite wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the semi-truck involved, 51-year-old Robert L. Hightower Jr. of Toledo was not injured.

Authorities believe alcohol played a role in the accident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Toledo Post was assisted at the scene by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Fulton County E.M.S., Swanton Fire and Rescue, Lyons Fire and Rescue, and Fulton County EPA.
