TOLEDO -- Parking tickets, begone! There’s a new way to add time to parking meters in downtown Toledo, and it’s no further than your pocket.
Almost every parking meter downtown now features a green sticker with a phone number and QR code that can be scanned to pay for parking via cell phone. The service is provided by ParkMobile, a leading global contractor of mobile parking payment transactions.
To use the system, customers can register for free at www.parkmobile.com or download the mobile app for iPhone, Windows and Blackberry devices. Users can also receive alerts when their meter is about to expire and pay for an extension straight from their phone.
If you don't have a smartphone, you can still call the toll free number listed on the parking meter to pay by phone.
The mobile system will charge a 35-cent fee per transaction, according to The Blade, which means the cost of parking for two hours will be $2.35.
But for many, it's still a small price to pay compared to the $10 overtime parking tickets handed out by Downtown Toledo Parking Authority officers.
