Starting April 25th, the TSA will begin allowing some previously restricted items, including small knives, back on airplanes for the first time since 2001.
According to NBC News, the change will mostly affect pocket knives with blades less than two-and-a-half inches long and 1/2 inch in width.
Box cutters and knives with locking blades will still be prohibited, however.
Some sporting items, such as lacrosse sticks, ski poles, golf clubs, and pool cues will also be allowed back on board as carry-on luggage.
CNN reports that toy and novelty bats will also be allowed, if they measure less than 24 inches and weigh less than 24 ounces.
The Transportation Security Administration announced the changes Tuesday and report that they reflect an overall assessment of risks to travelers and are in alignment with international standards.
But, not everyone welcomes the change including a flight attendants union has called the decision "dangerous".
