COUNTRY LAKES, FL -- An elderly Putnam County couple has been killed in an accident with a police cruiser in Florida.
Authorities say 84-year-old Pandora resident John Steffen turned into the path of two patrol cars that were responding to a call with their lights on but not their sirens. One officer was able to avoid Steffen's vehicle but the other was not. The two vehicles collided.
Steffen died at the scene. His 77-year-old wife, Marilyn died on the way to the hospital.
The officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.
