Toledo City Council has a new leader.

Council members voted yesterday to appoint District 4 Democrat Paula Hicks-Hudson as their new president. She replaces Joe McNamara, who stepped down as council president last week.

McNamara said, had he remained as president, his campaign for mayor might interfere with council's dealing with incumbent Mayor Mike Bell.

Hicks-Hudson says it's time to focus on the future and put any difference between council members behind them. She was elected by an 11 to 1 vote.
