BOWLING GREEN -- A Toledo man is in police custody after leading authorities on a high-speed chase that wound through 23 miles of Wood County early Friday morning.

Perrysburg Township Police first spotted Michael C. George, 29, of Toledo, driving southbound on I-75 before exiting onto I-475 North around 4:00 a.m. George then stopped his vehicle in the middle of I-475 and turned onto southbound I-75.

A trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol then observed George travelling at a speed of 99 mph headed south, just north of the Bowling Green exit (mile 181). After failing to stop for the trooper's overhead lights and sirens, a pursuit ensued down I-75 S reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.

George exited onto eastbound US 6 and was slowed down by stop sticks, put in place by a Wood County Sheriff's Deputy, at SR 199. Travelling at a speed of about 45-50 mph, George led police south on Pemberville Road, to west Cygnet Road and onto Yates Road. He then went northbund of Emerson Road and stopped south of Jerry City Road. He then fled his vehicle on foot and was apprehended by authorities shortly before 4:30 a.m.

George was transported to the Bowling Green post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol where he was tested to have a .113 blood alcohol level. He was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, OVI, driving on a suspended license, providing false information, obstructing official business, speeding, and not wearing a seat belt. He is being held at the Wood County Justice Center pending arraignment in Bowling Green Municipal Court.
