TOLEDO -- Gas prices in Toledo remain stubbornly high.  The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Toledo is $3.64.  That is an $.11 increase in the last week, and a $.53 spike in the last month.  One year ago, a gallon of regular unleaded went for $3.43 in Toledo. Toledo resident Leon Cade believes the current price of gas is a financial hardship for many people.  "You need gas to go to the grocery store and so I am hoping that the price will come down below $3 a gallon and that will help everybody," Mr. Cade said.

A number of national media companies have reported in the last several days that the spike that has ocurred in the last week is in relation to the fire at the Toledo Refining Plant last Wednesday.  The operator of the plant, PBF Energy, did not return WNWO's call seeking comment.

Over the next several weeks various refineries around the nation will shut down temporarily in order to convert to the summer gasoline blends.  This historically leads to a spike in gas prices.
