Oregon, OH - According to a police report, a family dog that lived at 1041 Mambrino St. in Oregon went missing on Dec. 27. The next day, one of the residents of the home made a gruesome discovery.
"They went looking for the dog," said Lt. Hank Everitt of Oregon Police. "What they found was half the dog in their own back yard."
The nine-year-old terrier, named Khloe (A.K.A. Lola), who reportedly weighed about 20 pounds, had been cut in half.
The remains were incomplete."The back half of the dog was found in the yard. The rest of the dog is still missing," said Everitt.
He said that this despicable act was likely perpetrated by someone specifically targeting that household. "This is the first time we've seen something like this. There's no indication that it's a pattern or a continual thing."
WNWO spoke with a forensic psychologist that said a disturbing act like this would indicate extremely violent tendencies, and eventually those tendencies would be directed toward humans.
"It's hard to imagine someone actually taking the time and effort to cut a dog in half," said Everitt.
Neighbors we spoke with say they always saw the dog roaming the neighborhood, and isolated target or not, they are keeping a closer eye on their own pets now.
One resident of the home did come out and speak with WNWO's Chris Delcamp. He told him they are fully cooperating with police, but police say that isn't true.
"Our detectives bureau have been over there a few times and nobody opens the door for us," says Everitt. He says they did tell their side of the story when the report was filed, but have not followed up with any details. The final line of the police report states, "Witness #1 is the live-in boyfriend of victim #1, he was very aprehensive when questioned about his knowledge of the incident."
That resident said he also had a suspicion of who may have done it, but would not say anything else, and would not go on camera about what had happened.
