Hundreds enjoyed the 65th annual Christmas meals at Cherry Street Mission Ministries on Madison Avenue.
TOLEDO -- Volunteers at Cherry Street Mission Ministries served up a warm lunch and dinner to those less fortunate on Christmas Day.
Hundreds enjoyed the 65th annual Christmas meals at Cherry Street Mission Ministries on Madison Avenue. Some told WNWO they were thankful for the help this holiday.
"It's like one big happy family," said Nathaniel Coachman. "These volunteers are just fabulous, they're beautiful to these people."
About 40 volunteers from the Toledo-area helped cook and serve hot bowls of minestrone soup and sides of fixings for lunch. Ham, green beans, mashed potatoes and stuffing were later served for dinner.
"This is a convergence of the community serving one another," said Dan Rogers, President and CEO of Cherry Street Mission Ministries. He continued, "It's very heart-warming during the midst of national crisis to see that our community really does know how to not only demonstrate, but actually behave, and care for one another."
Through help from donations and collaborations with other volunteer groups, Cherry Street Mission Ministries serves about 900 meals every day, year round.
