TOLEDO -- Gun retailers across the country have pulled certain weapons from their shelves in the wake of last week's school shooting in Connecticut.

Walmart has removed models like the military-style assault rifle used by shooter, Adam Lanza, from their website. The Bushmaster series rifle uses .223 caliber ammunition and is in the same family of guns alleged to have been used by Lanza to fatally shoot 20 children and six adults inside Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Walmart has not said why it has removed the gun from sale online.

Dick's Sporting Goods has also suspended all sales of modern rifles at all of the retailer's stores nationwide in response to the shooting. "Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide," the company wrote in a statement on their website.

Dick's Sporting Goods has three locations in northwest Ohio and more than 500 stores in 44 states. The company has not said when they expect to resume sale of rifles and which particular items have been pulled.
