TOLEDO -- If you're without natural gas service in South Toledo, don't blame superstorm Sandy, blame Columbia Gas.

Columbia Gas of Ohio says their crews are working to correct an incident which led to a significant natural gas outage in the area bounded by Byrne Road, Glanzman Road, Detroit Avenue, and Schneider Road Tuesday afternoon.

According to Columbia Gas, a valve on a regulation station failed to respond to meet the need for increased natural gas pressure. Consequently, about 1,100 homes are without gas.

As crews canvass the area, all natural gas is being shut off. If you are a Columbia Gas customer in the affected area and your gas meter is located inside your home, a crew member will need to gain access to your meter. Crews will return to turn on the gas and re-light appliances once gas has been restored to the area.

Residents must be home for crews to gain access. If you are not home, a notice will be left with a number to call in order to get service restored. Residents are encouraged to leave a porch light on if Columbia Gas has not been to your home.

Please remember, all Columbia Gas employees carry picture identification. Ask to see ID before allowing a worker to enter your home.
