SOUTH TOLEDO -- Local citizens in need were provided with assistance Wednesday afternoon at the Mayores Senior Center.

Families were able to receive a free assortment of food and assistance information.

The event, put on by the Lucas County Care Team, is a collaborative effort between Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak and several of social service agencies. The group is designed to bring resources to struggling Lucas County residents.

“A lot places will have food pantries, but they are in places that people can’t get to. So, by doing this service we're actually bringing the food into the communities and making it easier for people to get to.” Michelle Smith, Manager of Community Engagement Neighborhood Health Association said.

Food for Thought, The United Way, Lucas County Family Services and the Neighborhood Health association were some of the groups providing assistance to residents.
