Are you like me? Your iPad sits right by your bed and, if you happen to wake up during the night, you may check your email?
Well, we are not alone. More and more people are taking their tablets to bed with them to check email and Facebook before turning off the light. And, according to The Telegraph, health researchers are warning that this action could be keeping us from a good night's sleep.
Evidently, it's that blueish light that the screens emit that causes problems because this type of light mimics daylight, which convinces the brain that it is still daytime. Blue light suppresses production of a brain chemical called melatonin, which helps us fall sleep.
If you absolutely need to check your tablet throughout the night, try finding one with a more orange or red tone, as it does not suppress melatonin production. Researchers believe our brains perhaps recognize it as a cue that the day is coming to a close.
