FINDLAY -- Findlay’s Reducing Risk Committee, city officials and county schools laid out a comprehensive plan to tackle school violence.

Not only did the event offer ways to prevent violent acts, but also helped identify how to spot warning signs before it’s too late.

“All of the acts that could happen to our children we’re trying not only to prevent, but educate our children when something does happen,”said Findlay Superintendent Dean Wittwer.

The event held at the new Millstream Technology Center, identified behavioral concerns for parents and students, and offered ways to help individuals who exhibit unusual actions before a violent act is committed.

The group also worked with a psychology professor from Virginia Tech to learn more about school violence. With the school year in full swing, school safety is on the minds of many parents.

“With these partners working together, it’s really great that we are proactive in attempting to protect our young people, said Larry Busdeker, Superintendent of the Hancock County Educational Service Center.

Since 2007, multiple organizations in Findlay have partnered together to help reduce school violence.
